Carbon-Carbon bonds: Hybridization
Molecular binding behavior has a large in uence on the structure of a material and their properties. As a exclusion, carbon bind themself not in form of identical molecular orbitals but in form of hybridization. I explain the term hybridization and specify the in uence to the properties on the example of graphite and diamond. Furthermore, I present the change of properties by curvature e ects.
متن کاملCarbon–Carbon Interactions in Iron
Carbon atoms occupy interstitial sites in iron so that the configurations of any solid–solution at constant composition depend solely on the distribution of carbon atoms on the interstitial sub–lattice, this in turn being influenced by interactions between carbon atoms in close proximity. The carbon–carbon interaction energy, which influences the distribution of carbon atoms, is reviewed with a...
متن کاملReview of nanostructured carbon materials for electrochemical capacitor applications: advantages and limitations of activated carbon, carbidederived carbon, zeolitetemplated carbon, carbon aerogels, carbon nanotubes, onionlike carbon, and graphene
Electric double layer capacitors, also called supercapacitors, ultracapacitors, and electrochemical capacitors, are gaining increasing popularity in high power energy storage applications. Novel carbon materials with high surface area, high electrical conductivity, as well as a range of shapes, sizes and pore size distributions are being constantly developed and tested as potential supercapacit...

متن کاملCarbon Capture Using Amine-modified Carbon Nanotubes
The increasing rise in the rate of both anthropogenic CO2 emissions and atmospheric CO2 concentration, combined with an evolving understanding of what this means for global climate change both now, and in the future, has increased the need for novel technologies for CO2 capture from large point sources. Current industry standards involve the use of amine solvents, which have a large parasitic l...
متن کاملCarbon nanotube initiated formation of carbon nanoscrolls
The unique topology and exceptional properties of carbon nanoscrolls CNSs have inspired unconventional nanodevice concepts, yet the fabrication of CNSs remains rather challenging. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we demonstrate the spontaneous formation of a CNS from graphene on a substrate, initiated by a carbon nanotube CNT . The rolling of graphene into a CNS is modulated by the CNT siz...
